WHAT’S THE POINT?
Collab Clips is a video asset management platform and marketplace with more than 200,000 clips from Collab’s owned channels, partners, aggregators, and creators, originally built to support internal teams. As Collab expanded access to external vendors and third‑party partners, the manual, high‑touch clip checkout process became a bottleneck, creating the need for a scalable, self‑serve solution. The previous experience was fragmented across the Video Library (VL) and the Dashboard, forcing users to jump between products to complete core tasks. With the upgraded iteration of Collab Clips, our goal was to unify these capabilities into a single, self‑serve marketplace where users can seamlessly manage, discover, and license video assets end to end.
SOME HISTORY…
I was one of two designers responsible for building Collab’s original Video Library, where we conducted extensive research and testing with both internal stakeholders and external users to define core workflows. As Clips evolved from that foundation, our product and engineering teams remained intentionally small, 1–2 designers and fewer than five engineers, which required us to be highly efficient and focused. To accelerate delivery and ensure consistency, we adopted the Material UI–based Minimals UI, which enabled us to rapidly scale the interface, maintain a cohesive visual language, and ship new functionality much faster than designing every component from scratch.
CLIPS BENEFITS
Clips delivers far greater value than the original Video Library (VL), even though VL’s customized Collab branding helped it visually stand out. While VL laid the groundwork, Clips introduces a much richer set of capabilities that meaningfully improve day‑to‑day workflows. In the following sections of this case study, I focus on comparing a few key pages—Sign-In, Home, Single Clip page and Collections—to highlight how Clips advances usability, efficiency, and self‑serve licensing beyond what VL could support.

IN THE END 🎉
Collab Clips serves both internal teams and external partners as a single hub for managing the full lifecycle of video content. It supports ingestion, monetization, claiming, licensing, asset creation, binning, compilations, link submissions, content discovery, user management, account settings, credit pack purchases, and a marketplace for content sales. Building on everything the original Video Library offered, Clips introduces many more purposeful and much‑needed features to better support real‑world workflows. Our team streamlined the experience by enabling users to self‑serve: they can search, filter, license, download, share, bin content, manage users, and leverage rich metadata—all within one centralized platform.
